Jay spans disciplines being both an artist and a vision scientist. He has spent more than 20 years researching topics in visual perception. His research focus recently is in the field of empirical aesthetics where he investigates the aesthetic qualities of abstract shape. His landscape images have received critical acclaim. Two of his most recent awards include First Place in the 2015 Contemporary Art Gallery Online Cityscapses Contest and a Finalist showing at the 2016 Exhibitions Without Walls Competition. Jay has been a member of several galleries in the New York City region including the 440 Gallery in Park Slope Brooklyn, Studio 26 Gallery in the east village and the Tivoli Art Gallery in the Hudson river valley, where has curated and exhibited regularly. He is a member of the American Impressionist Society, the Pastel Society of America and the Connecticut Pastel Society. Articles about his work have appeared in The Poughkeepsie Journal newspaper and The Greenwich Times. His artwork has been published in The Pinyon Review and Cyberwit.net. He has authored multiple books on graphic design, tattoo patterns, pastel landscapes and digital photo art and is currently at work writing a textbook on the psychology of art.
